Jake Taniguchi

Principal Conductor

 
 

Jake Taniguchi is a conductor, bassoonist, and educator from Honolulu, Hawaii. He serves as principal conductor for the Hawaii Chamber Music Festival (HCMF) and assistant conductor of the Kamehameha Schools Orchestra Festival. Recently he has collaborated with artists including saxophonist Steven Banks, composer Billy Childs and members of the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra.

Taniguchi serves as assistant conductor for the Cleveland Institute of Music Symphony Orchestra, New Music Ensemble, and Opera Theater, and previously served as assistant conductor for the Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Baroque Music Ensemble, and Opera Theater. He has also guest conducted the Northwestern University Medical School Orchestra, Indiana University Symphonic and Concert Bands, Honolulu Wind Ensemble, and Hawaii Youth Percussion Ensemble.

Devoted to promoting life-long enthusiasm for music, Taniguchi has worked with numerous schools and youth organizations, such as Kamehameha Schools, Mid-Pacific Institute School of the Arts, Niu Valley Middle School, and the Oshkosh Youth Symphony Orchestra. In the summer of 2021, he led HCMF’s inaugural Young Artist Program (YAP), one of Hawaii’s leading educational chamber orchestra and chamber music programs.

Taniguchi holds degrees from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and Northwestern University Bienen School of Music and currently attends the Cleveland Institute of Music.
