An Evening with Eric Silberger

On December 18, HCMF will join forces with Tchaikovsky prize-winning violinist and Hawaii International Music Festival (HIMF) co-founder, Eric Silberger, in an intimate evening recital with University of Hawaii’s own, Dr. Jonathan Korth. This event will be at the University of Hawaii’s Orvis Auditorium.

Virtuoso violinist Eric Silberger is a prize winner of the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition and the Michael Hill International Violin Competition in 2011. His performances have been described by critics as “spine-tingling…astonishing” (The Guardian), “dazzling virtuoso playing” (The Washington Post), “impeccable level of playing, a wonderful musician” (Heather Kurzbauer, The Strad), and “ ….he has got everything in his favour, technique, composure and personality. We are on the eve of a great soloist” (El Pais, Spain).

Silberger is also the co-founder of the Hawaii International Music Festival (HIMF), an organization that celebrates music and Hawaii by bringing internationally acclaimed musicians to the communities of Hawaii through innovative, interdisciplinary concerts and educational outreach opportunities.

An international sensation, Silberger is an avid chamber musician and has appeared soloist with some of the finest orchestras including the St. Petersburg Philharmonia and Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Eric received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Columbia University and a Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School. He plays on rare J.B. Guadagnini violin from 1757 on generous loan from the Si-Yo Music Society Foundation Sau-Wing Lam collection.

Pianist Jonathan Korth enjoys a multifaceted career as a soloist, chamber musician, collaborator, and teacher, having performed recitals across North America, Europe, and East Asia to critical acclaim. Recent concert activities include performances in Bangkok, Beijing, Shanghai, Seoul, and Tokyo, as well as on the US mainland for at Carnegie Hall's Weill Hall, Washington DC’s Phillips Collection, and Chicago's Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series. Mr. Korth as performs regularly in and around his home of Honolulu where he is a piano professor at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, as well as on the neighbor islands. An avid lover of chamber music, Korth has collaborated with musicians such as violinists Martin Beaver and Robert McDuffie, cellists Zuill Bailey and Sung-Won Yang, and members of many of America’s leading orchestras.

Doors will open at 6:30pm and general admission attendees will receive the perfect holiday gift, a signed CD of Eric Silberger. This event is presented by the Hawaii Chamber Music Festival in collaboration with the Hawaii International Music Festival and the University of Hawaii’s Music Department.
